How to help Oklahoma City

If you, like me, are feeling helpless right about now, there are some things you can do.

Save the Children is mobilizing staff and supplies as we speak, with a focus on providing safe areas for child victims and their families. They’ve set up a direct donation page to assist with the relief effort.

The Red Cross has a shelter open in Moore and several others in the Oklahoma City Area. You can donate via mobile phone by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which helps people affected by disasters.

The Salvation Army is also on the ground in Moore, providing meals, hydration, spiritual and emotional care to first responders and those affected by the tornado. According to the Salvation Army website, monetary donations are the most critical need at this point. Donate online, by phone:1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769), or via text by texting the word “STORM” to 80888 to make a $10 donation through your mobile phone.

Another report I saw emphasized the importance of donating blood. If you’re anywhere near Oklahoma, consider finding a donation site near you.
