My experience with the saying “go big or go home,” first occurred when I was in elementary school. It was the first time I ever had to do a speech. I practiced nightly in different ways and added flare each time I recited the line
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
I wanted to wow everyone with my ability to remember the lines but also to say it with such conviction. As the day approached to stand up infront of the entire school and recite my verse I grew nervous even though my mom assured me I was going to be great.
The day arrived. My turn was up. I was so nervous. I walked up to the front of the stage. All eyes were on me! I saw my mom and dad in the crowd. I opened my mouth to speak and I said my verse with such conviction! I even used hand movements and eye contact. The crowd clapped. I felt good. I truly went big! I truly believe it was the encouragement that I got from my mom that helped me. I want to provide the same encouragement to my son when he is older.
